NEW STUDENTS
New adult students may begin any Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday training. Advance notice is helpful but not necessary.
***The next classes for new youth students will be the first two weeks of October (then again in January 2014). Feel free to observe a class before then to see whether you are interested in attending.
Drink lots of water and eat properly before coming to class. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your first visit to change clothes and to fill out a registration form.
New students can train in comfortable, loose fitting exercise clothing such as sweat pants or shorts with a
T-shirt for the first few months. When ready, traditional karate uniform should be purchased. Karate gis must be all white, with a wrap-around top, not a V-neck. Here are some links to stores where you can buy a gi.
New students are typically given a semi-private lesson with a brown or black belt instructor during their first training session so they can begin learning the basics. There is no added fee for this instruction.
What should you expect after your first training session? See What to Expect Your First Few Months.
It may be helpful to print out our Welcome Document for new members. It summarizes our schedule, fees, manners, dojo kun, and the most helpful Japanese terms to learn as a beginner.
Not sure if you want to join the club?
Come and observe a training. It's ideal if you can stay until the end so you can speak to a member about your interest and ask questions.
